I am just neutral on this book. It didn't particularly shine, but it wasn't so bad either. The hero August Avery is a very likeable character, ambitious yet caring (he took upon himself the care of his orphaned baby niece). The heroine is okay, likewise ambitious and goes for what she wants and isn't afraid to tread on unfamiliar paths to get where she wants to. But there lies my problem with Ivy. Just two days under the hero's employ as nursemaid to the baby, she traipses around at night in her flimsy nightwear and "she let herself softly down on his bed" and allowed him to "nuzzle" her breasts??? Granting she was helping her drunken employer, still, it would have been easy for her to leave his bedroom as he was already settled on his bed. All this considering that the grumpy housekeeper is supposed to have such sharp hearing. In this period i would think that an innocent lady would be very careful not to get herself ruined. The plot about Ivy sleepwalking is stupid. As nursemaid to a baby who kept her off her bed often at night, the sleepwalking part is rather off. When the hero caught her doing so one night, he was worried she'd hurt herself or fall off the stairs. Who knows what she could have done with the baby too. Fortunately when she sleepwalks, she seems only interested in getting into the hero's bed. The sex scenes were not very graphic, but they were not exciting either. I just skimmed through them. There were too much internal dialogues, and if there ever is an actual dialogue it was only between the hero and the heroine, and every now and then the widow next door pops in (a story does need a bad guy after all). In a small household, one would expect that the three servants can at least talk as well. So there, it's a book that won't leave me with a lasting impression.Tags : Kissed at Midnight - Kindle edition by Samantha Holt. Kissed at Midnight edition by Samantha Holt Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Absolutely love it. I love how the two characters fight their attraction for each other and then BAM, give it to it.
Great read! Relatable, enjoyable characters, adorable baby and just enough conflict to make it interesting without some overblown, ridiculous drama. Really enjoyed this one!
I don't think Samantha Holt can write a bad novel. Brimming with memorable characters and even laugh at loud moments, I got so lost in this story I forgot it was time to make dinner! Excellent book to curl up with a cuppa or two.
Are there really accidents in life?
Or does everything happen for a reason?
This story about two people who ignore the naysayers and strive toward their true desires is heartwarming, it is inspiring, it is so sexy it made my toes curl reading it.
These characters receiving love they never expected to find and rewarding beyond their wildest dreams put a very real smile on my face.
I really liked this story because it was simply a love story. It was about a relationship that started with respect that turned to love and it didn't have the cliche villain who tried to kidnap or harm the heroine. Yet it was a very entertaining story with good characters. Really enjoyed reading it.
The heroine had run away from home because she wanted to preform on stage as a singer. Her parents objected to the idea, and her mother wanted to marry the heroine off. Money is running low and she must find employment. She goes to a house with the objective of applying for the position of governess but she had the wrong address. However the man who opened the door was in need of a nanny as he had become the guardian of a baby girl.
He hired her and though the heroine knew little about babies she tried her best. She is fairly competent and the situation suits both the heroine and hero.
There is the usual late night in her nightgown encounters, as well as the usual neighborhood female who has an eye on the hero too, but she is no real threat. The attraction grows between the main characters with a couple of close encounters before getting down to a serious sexual relationship.
The hero is an engineer and supposedly was to be often away but rarely was. He tries to help her with her plans for a singing career but she has to overcome her stage fright first.
An accident brings them closer together. There is no real drama to the story. It was a so-so book.
I feel very stupid for waiting so long to read this book by Ms. Samantha Holt since I have had this in my kindle library for so long when I should have read it sooner but better late than never. I read a lot of regency historical romance between lords and ladies but this one is a bit different it’s between a master of the house an engineer and a mere servant or nursemaid there is still a class distinction and a sense of propriety that both protagonists must adhere to considering the time period which even with this there are no rules when it comes to true love. Ms. Holt just knows how to tell a wonderful feel good romance story with a lot of sexual tension and some great three dimensional complex characters that make it quite a page turner.
August Avery becomes guardian of his cousin’s six month old daughter and needs help immediately. The help comes in form of a beautiful woman Ivy but now August has another problem resisting Ivy and falling in love.
I seriously loved both August and Ivy yes they are not perfect August can be bull headed, stubborn and at times I just wanted to hug the poor man since he struggles daily with his feelings but really he is just an amazing hero. He really loves Ivy attempting to let her live her dreams but just has a hard time showing it. Ivy is really a great heroine she’s strong, resourceful, and intelligent plus she can really stand up for herself what’s not to like about her. I did want more into Ivy’s family life however what would drive her to make the decision to be a performer. The funny thing is I even wanted Mrs. Pepperwhite to find someone and to see another story of Elsie all grown up I guess in actuality I really didn’t want the story to end that I rated the book four stars, can recommend it and when it does come to Ms. Holt I will not wait so long next time to read more of her works!
