This is an excellent beginner's manuel that I wish I had come across when I first began my journey. There are thousands of beginner books out there yet this one is extraordinary in intent & content. Obviously, what speaks to me may not speak to you and yet I believe even a "seasoned" witch will find some hidden treasure if she/he is looking for it.Tags : Seasons of the Witch Primer [Victoria David Danann] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Seasons of the Witch Primer Victoria David Danann 9781933320113 Books Reviews
This product was a good read, and had a few good ideas in it, but unfortunately, the writers viewpoint comes across very strong sometimes. However, for a resource, it is quite good, and does come in handy... It's not needed however to enjoy the Seasons of the Witch Daytimer.
Ms. Dannan's day planner "Seasons of the Witch" is simply awesome. The art is beautiful and the planner is what every busy witch needs. Discreet enough for the boardroom, you can plan your ceremonies along with your business meetings and family appointments. I have the "filler" version to incorporate into my own day timer, however the bound version is handy too. I highly recommend this product. Now it's easy to keep track of the special days of the year. Thank you, Ms. Dannan, for a great product.
Before I go any further, I would like to point anyone considering purchasing this in the direction of the publisher's site. This book is not out of print and I can't understand the ridiculously high prices being charged for tattered copies. A brand new one directly from 7th-House is around $20 when shipping is factored in. This warning applies to all of 7th-House's books. Don't let yourself be fleeced. Why does not stock these titles is beyond me.
I enjoyed reading this, in spite of the numerous typos and the one or two duplicated paragraphs. This is essentially self-published by 7th House, and those sorts of issues are typical in independent press releases. Some of the information seems to be ordered a bit erratically, but it's all interesting and potentially useful. The Primer is one of the few books that I have used a highlighter in; there's that much good information here. There is also a bit of author bias, the same as any other witch book, but I think that even if you disagree with some of Victoria's views, you will still pick up something that will prove useful in your practice. I had to read it once, set it aside and let everything sink in, then pick it up again a few months later and re-read.
I also use 7th House's Seasons of the Witch Planner, and while I don't think having the Primer is absolutely necessary to use the Planner, I don't think it hurts, either. The concepts behind the many different "Power Days" are fully explained, and Victoria provides a number of correspondences to get you started brainstorming a suitable ritual or spell. I've gotten some very good ideas for workings by using both references. It takes the guesswork out of judging the proper timing for certain types of spells. I'm a busy witch; I will take shortcuts if they work!
I think the Primer would be especially beneficial to newer witches and Wiccans who are past the beginning stage and want to expand their practice. Danann offers a very solid, commonsense theory of how magick works. I can recommend it without reservations. I also love her spell checklist. I've read lots of other books with checklists and sample record sheets for spells and rituals, and I've used all that I've found, but hers has been the most thorough and useful. She will make you look at factors that you previously didn't give a second thought. Even if you dislike this book immensely, take the checklist and add it to your record keeping system. You can only benefit from using it.
Wonderful )
This is a perfect companion to my Seasons of the Witch Day Planner 2007. It clarifies a lot of suggested workings and explains these in detail. I believe it will be useful far beyond just the 2007 Day Planner.
Very good reading, with useful information. A must if you buy the daybook, but even without it, this primer is worth having.
The concepts and ideas in this book seem good. Unfortunately the writing makes it very difficult to get to them. I have to wonder if there was actually an editor. There are typos, incorrect grammar usages and even whole paragraphs duplicated. I never read the first edition to know it this is better or not, but the third edition needs some time spent with a red pen.
This is an excellent beginner's manuel that I wish I had come across when I first began my journey. There are thousands of beginner books out there yet this one is extraordinary in intent & content. Obviously, what speaks to me may not speak to you and yet I believe even a "seasoned" witch will find some hidden treasure if she/he is looking for it.
